Floppy Devils hand

So I bought my first Devils hand leather two days ago. Looked healthy and happy when I put it in the tank now it looks like it's taking a nap. Everything else is doing great (sps, frog spawn etc) params all in check. Is this normal ?

Wow I seriously think people have forgot how to use each functions, or just don't care to look any more. ..this question is probably asked every week by some one. ..

The coral is acclimating to your tank, either because you didn't do it right or because it is a leather and this is how they do things, providing your water parameters are any where near what they should be for keeping a tank alive , the leather will be fine. .just don't move or play with it. .they need time to adjust. .they require high flow and good light and they are not overly particular about water quality. .

Again leave it alone it will be fine in a day or so

Having a secure base also plays a role in the overall health of these corals. I'm not sure what that thing is attached to, but it looks like it's hanging by a thread.

You might want to try increasing the flow around the coral. If that base is indeed secure, sometimes this will help them to perk up a little. This also helps with the shedding process too

Thank you for your colorful commentary wanabee. But I posted after doing my research. Any helpful insight here? I don't think this would be considered shedding. Going back to the Lfs today unless someone suggests this is normal.

That is not normal. It looks like the coral is deteriorating or something. All those little white shards is kind of what makes up the coral. They have a specific name but I can't remember it right now.

How is your flow in the tank? I struggled with leathers and it ended up being poor flow. Add another powerhead just to double check

my leathers seem to be the most finicky of any coral ive ever had. Its a shame because i love them. I started a new tank and my devils hand was the first one i put in the tank and looked great for an entire week until i transfered other corals in there and now all the sudden he is shrunken and no polyps...

Could be a chemical problem. .. try running some carbon for a couple weeks see if they open up better. ..I can usually tell when it is time to change my carbon when my leathers start closing up
