Flow at night

I used to have a photoelectric cell plugged into one of my Tunze's, but now I just leave it full blast 24/7 w/ >80x turnover in a 65g--fish find hiding places and do fine.
If you ever go SCUBA/snorkeling on a reef, you would not hesitate to have as much flow as possible.

Run them at night. No need to turn them off. I noticed the other day that I have a lot of night creatures that use this current. Such as tiny stars that drift around for hours at night.

....this query ends with another question:
'How much money are you willing to invest here?'

Cause the ultimate solution for a natural flow patter is to get a wavemaker of sorts and time your powerheads throughout the day to create random flow.

Although, your reef and inhabitants should do just fine if you leave all your powerheads on all the time.
