flow for 125g mainly sps tank?

ive recently started adding some of my sps corals from my 28g to my new 125g tank. im thinking a may need some extra flow for some dead spots.

right now my current flow consists of 1-mp40 at 95% in short pulse, 1-1000gph korelia,1-1400gph korelia and 1000gph for water return. the total is about 6400gph= about 50times turnover.

i have the mp40 positioned on the left top towards the front of the tank and the korelia's on the opposite side.

i was thinking of adding a mag6(2200gph) in the place of the 1000gph and moving the 1000 to the middle top of the rear of the tank. this would give me about 70x turnover and help with a slight dead spot in the center rockwork.

would it be ok to have 1 of the powerheads on the rear of the tank? would kind of be like what vortech recommends for its ntm.

any other flow combo suggestions?

dimensions of the tank ?

Id put the MP40 on one side, opposite to overflow.

then the Ks around to clear dead spots, two on opposite sides, and one on back glass blowing towards front to keep front glass cleaner.

pic, or dimensions would help alot too.

vortech adviced 2-3 pumps [Vortechs] for NTM.

the tank is 72x18x21. the over flow is in the middle on the rear. here is a picture.

i moved the 1400 gph k just to the right of the center rock in the middle facing upwards. i ordered a mag 6 and im thinking of removing the 1000gph k and replacing it with the 6 and installing it on the middle right side facing kinda upwards. i think that might be enough flow. i also could add the 1000gph k to the left side rear.

i like reef crest also. i cant turn the mp40 all the way up in that mode, sand storm. i could run it at 80% in rc.

i added the mag 6 last night and moved the k's to the rear of the tank. it turned out to be too much flow even with the mp40 dialed back to 60%. the sand was blowing all over. i decided to remove it and purchace another mp40. i will most likely run them in anti-sync in rc mode.

You have more flow than I do in a 180g, grows sps pretty well too. I would think that moving the pumps around should take care of any dead spot, though for the life of me I don't know how you could have any. 2 mp40 should take care of that tank, with no other pumps at all. I'm running an mp40 and a mp10, nothing else and while I would prefer 2x mp40, I don't think the nems at the mp10 end would agree with me.

On another note try running the mp40 on lagoon mode cranked up, assuming it doesn't move too much sand. Reef crest is awesome but the pump spends alot more time at lower flows that it does on lagoon mode, lagoon mode has far more total flow over time. Max flow is the same but the pump will spend more time at high flow with lagoon than with reef crest.

i may try lagoon mode. i still wondering if should use sync or anti-sync. i think in sync mode it will be too much.

installed the 2nd mp40 today. the most i can turn them up to is about 85% with out creating a sand storm. i have them running in short pulse, anti-sync right now.. i may try lagoon tonight. i dont think i will be able to use any of the other powerheads. possible i could place the 1000gph k on the rear corner.

Your sand in the 125g will get "heavier" with time. Organisms will grow and live in the sand and it won't blow around as easy. I've got an MP60 and MP40 in my 120g 48" reef with both pumps at 80% with a sugar SSB without sand storm issues.

i was able to get away with running the mp-40's at about 85% in short pulse. i was also able to add a 1000gph korellia to the rear corner facing slightly down for some extra flow in the rear of the tank without creating a sand storm. i think that will be plenty of flow.

update.

i have 2-mp40's on either side of the tank about 4" from the water line and 4" from the fron glass. 1-kor 1100 gph on the right side rear of the tank and 1-mp10 on the center rear of the tank. im running them in ntm and i only can turn up the the flow about 60% without large drifts forming. . i added everything up and it im at about 5500gph (about 45X turnover) . im thinking that still should be plenty of flow.
