I am currently using a single K8 but the magnet is not strong enough to hold where I need it through 1" acrylic, so what are my other options for powerheads, ruling out closed loop. I don't want to spend the money for MP60's, which would be ideal, but I just can't fathom the $750 for one of them. What other options do I have. My work has been crazy for the last year so I am sort of out of tune with what is currently available. If I could find some way to make the magnets stronger on the K8's I woudl just buy a few more of them.

Maybe try a different external magnet?
On the opposite end of my mp60 i had just put up a Koralia evo1400 and its holding up lightly on 3/4" glass. When I had gotten the mp60, it was $700+15% black friday discount. No way i would pay 750 for them now.
If I do get my 400g upgrade 3/4" acrylic, I'm going with 4 K7/K8's.
I did just try using my Great White magnet algae cleaner and its holding my PH very strongly. Maybe if you can buy a magnet for about 10-20 bucks and use it? or if you have a Magfloat. It would look ugly on a side glass though.
Even the $10-15 magfloat, the magnet on it is 10x stronger than the ones on the Koralia.
