Flow for a 120g AGA

I have a standard 120 gallon tank and am wanting to get some tunzes. I'm not really into the wave action. Don't ask me why, I just prefer the look of random flow. So my three main goals or good random flow, being able to slow the flow down at night and also lower the flow while feeding. Would I be better running three 6055 nanostreams, or two 6105. The pricing is relatively close and my school of thought is that 3 powerheads will give you more options than two. Any pros or cons on either set ups. Also if anyone has any photos of either powerheads with something like a coke can or their hand in the picture so i can gauge size would be great!

You would be better off with the 2 6105s. And if you wanted to open up the flow pattern later you can swap the front housings with those of the 6205 as in a 4 foot tank would reach across well still but widen the pattern.

Maybe I should have mentioned I want to put them on the back glass. I dunno if that would make a difference in your recommendation but it sounds like you meant for me to put them on the sides. Just want to make sure were on the same page! Thanks

If you want to put them on the back the 6055s may work better in ways but would be dependant on what you plan to keep. If you were going to do softies and some LPS you may get what you want out of them. If it will be an SPS tank I dont feel you will be happy.

Thanks, thats what i needed to know....the tank has only been running for a few weeks and im slowly getting it like i want...Ill probably buy one this month and another one in a month or so! So the front housing of a 6205 is the same diameter and will just clip on the front of the 6105? Wide flow is def. what im looking for. Thanks again

Yes it will just fit right up to it. If you are going with a 6105 they really will work better on each side of the tank vs the rear.

Now that's a cool idea!

I got the Vortech because the flow on the 6105s was too direct. If swaping the front housings with the 6205 gives a wider flow pattern I am sold!

I agree with Shawn but I would suggest for a 120 using the 6105's with the 15V jumper setting so the flow is adjustable from about 700-2000gph. The 6055 as is delivers a 48" by 18" flow at full power, the 6105 at 15V will deliver a roughly 54" by 24" flow pattern. The 6205 screen will widen the flow to about 36' but your tank is not wide enough for that to do much good. You will get more turbulence, but the tank will channel the flow back down to 24" wide.

thanks for the info everone. i think im gonna get two of the 6105's and the new 7096. also i heard that they are getting a new prop for these to cut down on the break in noise and because they have a larger pitch they require a different jumper. Is that something id need to look into, because i def. want these as quiet as i can get them

The next 6105's we get will have an 18V jumper and a 15V jumper and the bigger blade.
