Flow for a 40b BB SPS tank

I will be setting up a 40b BB SPS tank, would two Evolution 1050 or 1400 be ok?

I would say 2 1400's at least. I run a pair of the 750's a nano 425 and an original nano at 250, with the return at roughly 350gph and I could still use a little more and I am only half SPS. If you have the ching I wouldn't hesitate to throw an mp40 on there.

i gotta 40 br and run 2 MP 10 wES in nutrient mode works great for me also run 1 small korallia behind my rocks just for movement, BB SPS dominate also

I just got an mp20. Gotta add some water to the 40b see how it is, hope it's enuff. If not I'll have to upgrade to the mp40

Thank you for me. I think i'll go with Evolution 1400.
I'm setting up my 40b as a peninsula. My 40b and 75 will drain into a 55g sump.

heh. looks like i am not the only one to resist using vortechs ;-)
I would go with the 1400 as well as another powerhead to get the gph
up to 1600-2000.

I went BB on my 40 breeder a while back. I had a modded MJ900 and 2 K2 plus sump return Mag 3.5. While I loved the look I could never get the flow right and always had detritus in dead spots. My total water turn over is 67 times per hour thats 2680 gph, a lot of flow and still was not able to keep all the detritus in suspension. I went back to a shallow sand bed.

This is OT but, would 20lb of BRS Pukani Dry Rock be good amount for this tank?

I have about 45-50 lbs in my tank. I just got rid of a 5-6 lbs piece. 20lbs will be enough, it all depend on what kind of look you want.

Would the Sure Flow 1600 Maxi-Jet Upgrade Kit for the Maxi-Jet 1200 be to much flow for a 40b?
