Flow for a 55

I have 2 K3 in my 55 that Im using for flow and from what I have been reading its better to use the nanos for seahorse tanks. I don't think the nanos put out much flow and wondered if the K3's were too much. The K3 has a flow cap that fits on the powerhead to protect anything from getting to the propeller. Will this work?

A lot of people have stated problems with the K3's in that the seahorse tries to hitch to it and there tail goes through the grating (I always assumed it was on the side of the pump since the flow from the front would push it out) and causes amputation.

I have used the koralia nano's, which there has also been some reported issues, in my tanks. The grating on the side is much smaller then a K3.

I think the key for flow in a seahorse to tank is to have enough were nothing gets behind the rocks to rot, but not enough that the seahorses are being blown about. It is hard to come up with an excat number of GPH turnover since all methods of arranging current can result in different affects.

Thats what I thought might be the problem but I could not find it posted anywhere. I guess I could place 2 or 3 nanos around the back of my 55. I had a couple extra K3's and thought they would work but I don't want to chance it with seahorses. I was planning on making a mantis tank but after talking with my husband we thought it would be safer for us and my 2 year old son to explore other tank options. Thanks again for your input. :)

If you have the cash, go an MP20 Vortech and use the foam cover that comes with them. These are awesome pumps and create a very broad wave of water motion that will keep even high demanding corals happy.

I have about 6 foam covers now and change them out daily.
