Flow for SPS only section in my sump

Hey Reefers,

I have a question regarding flow in a section of my sump that will be dedicated to SPS. The section is 16"W x 19"L "19"H. This area will be used to house my SPS frags as I eventually need to trim. I'm deciding between a vortech mp10 or mp40. I'm a TUNZE guy, so I've never used either. Would the MP40 be too much for this small of an area? I have one vote from a buddy of mine that recommends the 40.

I would recommend the MP10. The MP40 is too strong and would have to be significantly turned down.

If for whatever reason you decided one MP10 was not enough, you could add a second MP10 for close to the same cost as one MP40. You would also have a lot more flow options with two MP10s than one MP40.

On my tank (40"x23"x18") I had one MP40 running at 70% on the left side. I found that I was blasting the SPS on the left side, the center was perfect and had weak flow on the right side. I added an MP10 on the right side and synced them. Now I have great flow and run my Vortechs at 40%.

I would also go with a MP10. That would give you a great amount of flow. I run 2 MP40s on my 75g at about 90%, but I think it would be too much flow for your situation.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm going to go with two pumps. I will use the MP10 in conjunction with a TUNZE nano stream. This way I can get the best of both worlds. Thanks again to everyone who replied. This is a big help!
