Flow in 60" long 32" wide Peninsula

I am currently putting a Elos 160XL together. The dimensions are odd at 63L X 32W & 24T. Would it be possible to generate enough flow from one pump to create a decent wave in a tank that long and wide? I would use a second pump on one of the sides and run the cord into the stand to generate more flow on the end opposite the wavemaking vortech. Or, would it be better to just put both Vortechs on one end and have them create on wave together? Thanks for the advise.

I would highly recommend two pumps on this tank, one on the left and one on the right. You should be able to get some wave movement, but the size of the wave will vary based on the rock layout within the tank.

You could also place both pumps on the same side but I feel that on opposite sides is the best placement. My best advice is to use two pumps an experiment with their placement.

Thanks for the response. I appreciate the help. I am trying to avoid putting one on each end since one end sticks out into the middle of the room. When the Vortech's are set on Reefcrest, is that a pretty high flow setting? I just want to make sure that I will have enough flow in the tank to prevent problems. I only have experience with Tunze so far and really want to give the Vortechs a try. They seem like an ideal pump my new tank.

Thanks,

J

Hi J,

Since you are trying to preserve the peninsula style then I would say go for two on the short side and see how it goes. If you use pulse mode with the slave in 'sync' then you should be able to create a wave.

Don't mean to crash this thread, but how about placing 2 on the same side on the long side? I am setting up a 48" long peninsula and would also like to keep the pumps out of view from the 3 viewable sides. Would this be adequate flow?

This would be adequate as well however the wave you would achieve would be a front-to-back wave rather than a left-to-right wave.
