Flow my issue? Cyano in 10G nano

So i have a 2 month old 10G with assorted softies (scolemia, frog spawn, leather coral, 3 diff zoanthis rocks) and 3 different sps.

I have a crappy HoB filter filled with carbon in a media bag and a blue physical filter before feeding back in.

I have two Rio 50's running in the tank... do i need more flow?? Cyano is everywhere! I feed every other day very lightly mysis/cyslops for my 6 line wrasse.

My ammo/nitrites are at 0. My Nitrates are less than 5, but measurable.

One thing i am working on at the moment is a low alkalinity. I am slowly inching it up to an acceptable level.

The only other factor i can think of is adding "ComboVital" at a pinch a day for 4 days last week. I have since discontinued use of this product for now as i believe it is a real overdose of cyano food in this tank.

My main question is, Do i need more flow?

other tidbits: Lihting: 96W 50/50 4 bulb powercompact.

more flow would definitely help. i would also get rid of the blue filter fiber which will be a "nitrate factory" if not cleaned on a regular basis. i know i had that problem with one powerhead in my 20H until i just added 2 more powerheads and now my only problem is green algae from my tap water which i have to take care of now. if it's not one thing it's another. what type of water are you using? tap or ro/di?

How many gph are the rios? More flow can help but I would work on the nitrates and phosphates. Cynao for me is a part of the cycling process and should slowly disappear in time as long as there isnt a major problem. If you are using tap water, you might want to look into (at least) a cheap DI unit.Goodluck

I would also suspect phosphates. What kind of water are you using? Start using RO/DI if you aren't already.

Adding a phosphate resin would be the next thing to try. Either an aluminum based one such as SeaChem PhosGuard or a iron oxide based one such as RowaPhos.

Adding a skimmer would also help but this is a more expensive route.

Im having cyano problems too... i think my problem is bad RODI water that im buying from a local supermarket, i think its time to invest in my own filter. My LFS sells this reddish filter pad that is supposed to instantly remove the cyano, but the stuff is like $20 a sq. ft! I have a very good skimmer (cpr bakpak 2) and just added an extra MJ1200 in my 20 long... good luck Xirxes.. i hate cyano :(

yeah, I did have cyano until I upgraded to a remora pro and none since even upgrading to a euro-reef skimmer. Keeping nutrients down is the real trick to keeping cyano and additives/chemical absorbants are just a temperory fix.

ok this is a 10 non drilled, with no room for a skimmer.

I am using RO-DI, and have been for some time.

My ammo/rites/phosphate are at zero.

nitrates are below 5 ppm, but show up.

I will add two more very small rio's, as i have a lot of softies in the tank, i believe these are 50 GPH pumps, but they are tiny.

I think that i over-added Combo vital at the rate of one pinch a day for three days, and that fed my problem.

My blue filter is cleaned weekly, along with carbon, which is replaced once a month.

After the flow is in and i try that for a bit, as well as a lower addition of combo vital, i will check back in to see if the problem is resolved.

Thanks for all the input.
