flow overkill?

i was wondering right now i have a seio powerhead m820. if i got another one would that be kill overflow?

Really depends on what you want to keep. For LPS you are good at the 27X turnover you have for SPS you would be considered on the low end. I like to run about 50x turnover in my tank and I have a softie only reef. Although I will be adding SPS to my new tank once it is all set up.

wow 50x LOL I am currently setting up a 50 gallon and was planning on having 36x and was afraid I would have too much... I guess not LOL

I have a little over 30x turnover in my 40g and keep softies, lps, and sps if that helps.

The funny thing is i have some friends who talk about how they think 50X is way too little, but I like my DSB.

Add up the gph rating of all your powerheads that you have running in your tank and also include gph coming through your return from your sump. Then divide that by the gallons your tank holds to give you the number of times that your water volume is "turned over" per hour.

It's tough to do any more than 50x with a sand bed. I have a BB though and am running about 65x. SPS focused tank but have a few LPS and softies as well.

ya i def. saw the mag pump box and it's at 950 gph then i have the seio at 820. what i'm wondering is. i want to keep zoas, mushrooms, and other items later on. do i need to be at the 47x? and i have a sandbed. i don't want a sandstorm and i don't want to blow my fish every which way lol. i see they are like blowing in the breeze now lol it's pretty funny.

You don't need to be at that level of flow. I have found that my corals enjoy the higher flow. Your actually probably only getting about 750-800 gph out of the mag 9.5 because it has to pump against gravity to return the water to your tank.

Direct flow on LPS can damage them but as long as the flow is broad you should be fine. In a 4' tank 1 seio an each side of the tank should do pretty well.

oh ya i aim mine off the front glass and that's one one side i will get another one to do it on the other side
