Flow question

Are 2 jebao wp25's too much for a 40 breeder? I made a mistake buying sugar sized sand and it's getting blown everywhere haha. I will be doing a large wc and swapping sand for sure. Just wondered if I should switch out a wp25 with a tunze nano or keep running both wp25s.

Depends on what you are keeping. For example my system is a bare bottom SPS setup. I have very high flow (2 gyre xr150s) and it works great.

If you have sand and soft corals or LPS you will want to limit the flow to a point where it isn't stressing the corals or creating a sandstorm. The sandstorm is really the main concern IMO most any coral will adjust to high flow just fine.

I have 0 coral and 2 small clowns now. I don't plan on putting anything else in for a few months. The flow seems great with the 2 wps but the sugar sized sand blows no matter what I do lol.

WP10's are almost too much for a 40b. Even turned down as low as they go the WP25's are 800 gpm, the WP10's max out at 1000.

How many pounds of sand do you currently have? I've got about 70-80 lbs in mine and it just barely comes above the black trim at the bottom of the tank. I would think it would take about 30-40 lbs to give you a decent amount over the top of the fine stuff you have, but at least you can keep it this way and not have it blow all over the place.

Oh ok. Well yeah if you are getting a sand storm you can either decrease flow or change out/remove the sand.

There should be a fairly easy way to decrease the flow of the WP25s. I have one laying around here somewhere . . .

I think they are adjustable from 24v to 12v from the controller.

Also you could try pointing them toward the surface. They may need to be lower in the tank to prevent splashing but this might help to dissipate the flow enough to prevent sandstorms

I have them midway pointing up on their lowest settings. I don't have a sand storm but it does make bare spots. I had that problem with 2 tunze nanos as well. I'll just switch the sand out

I have two of the wp-25's on my 40g breeder..
Center of tank (front to back) and about 3" below water level..
Running both 30% speed, w1 mode 50% on the knob.. (using the RW-8 controllers)
One is kicked up at the surface a few degrees.. Other is pointed straight across..
My sand is that "Black Diamond" blasting media..
You can tell it moves the sand around from day to day but it doesnt pile up anywhere...
If you are running two jebao wavemakers I would order the JBWAVE controller from Amazon, it is alot better controller,, I just havent had the money to get it yet...

I love the look of sugar sand, but the constant sand storms in my FOWLR are distracting. Can't wait to be rid of it.

Thanks! I'll definitely look into that.

The sugar sand is beautiful, as long as I have no power heads running :lolspin:

Even the tunze nanos that produce around 500gpm or whatever the correct term is, blows the sand all over. Even when I point them at the top and move them down to the middle, sand gets blown somewhere and the sand bed becomes one huge dead spot.
