im setting up a 180 (already up and running) and need to know what kinda flow i need for sps only tank. as of now all i have in there is 2 seio 820a and 2 seio 1000 props. i know this is no where near what i need. i have an apex system so i was looking at tunze stuff but i have no idea what kinda flow i need. i have a 40 breeder with 3 1200 mjs and a mag 5 on a wavemaker. works fine but this is 5 times the tank. please let me know what would be good under say 300.00

under 300 for flow? i would want about 10000+ gallons per hour of flow myself.

so that would be my target to aim for. the pumps you have.. how many gph do they add
up to so far?

Tunze or Vortex are great if you have the cash. Koralias are a good cheaper alternative. I have about 67X turnover in my tank. I would think somewhere around 50-70X would be good flow for an SPS tank.

to give you an idea i have about 80 to 120 times of flow per hour for the size of my tank depending
on the speed the pumps are currently running at.

at first you can get away with less but as the corals grow and you keep adding things..
you just need more and more water movement to keep hard corals happy. matter of fact
i do not think i ever saw anyone have too much.

i think you are asking for under $300, right? i would look upaqueon powerheads. i have 2 of the 1650 gph on my 200gal along with a few korillas. they have a2400 gph for $85.

to save $$ look into used powerheads. Also i know you said ASAP but when you say setting up do you mean its still cycling? If so you should be waiting on SPS for a while. If not i stick with the used power head recommendation.

modded maxijets are super cheap for high flow.

premium aquatics has the 1200's for $22 and the prop/shroud kit for $11 i think. thats $33 for 2100 GPH

You'll want to spend a little more on flow, get a MP40 or MP60 now, and when you've got more budget later, get another one and anti-sync them up.

i think mp40/mp60 might be out of his budget range.. but 300 dollars might buy some interesting
used tunze stuff. Plus i would be a lot more comfortable buying used tunze then used vortech...
but just my two cents.. i own vortech but only considered them new. i learned long ago that
I required that warranty for a very good reason ;-)

two medium size tunzes would run about 300 with combined flow of 3500-4000 flow as of now. 6065 run about 1717phg, im looking at the korila magnums right now. they are on sale at fosters and smith for less than a hundred buck each. 6s are 2200gph, 7s are 2800 gph and 8s are 3200gph.... im just worried that the korila magnums wont flow what they say they will. does anyone have them and can throw in thier experience with korila mangums

trying to get good flow for SPS in a 180 gal with a budget of $300..... looks like hes not looking for quality. agreed. modded maxi's are crappy flow, but about the only way a 180 gal would get any movement. i have a a modded maxi with 2100 GPH prop, and 2 koralia evo 1050's in my 40b frag tank. thats for 40 GALLONS. hes looking at 4 times the water and has a budget of $300. a mp60 and a mp40 would be good.... but looks like thats WAY over his budget, so im suggesting cheap.
