Flow through Sump?

I have a Red Sea Max E 170 and Jebao DCP-6500 pump.

Red Sea recommends 2700 lph or 713 gallons per hour to go through sump.

The 6500 I am guessing 2ft head loss.

The 6500 uses 55w and max 6500lph

I am guessing I should be using about 42% of the 6500 guessing 23w; As of now I have it at 15W.

2ft of head is unlikely..
Measure it if you want...
and then remember that flow rate recommendations are largely seat of the pants stuff and highly generalized.

In general, it depends on how fast your gravity-flow from the main tank can drain down TO the sump. Having a valve on your 'up' line to provide artificial 'head' (ie, slow down) the flow of a potent pump is a good idea, to prevent overflow in the display tank. When I was running a 55 display with a big pump, definitely I had it valved down; but when I traded to a 102 with a rapid drain-down, I just opened the valve all the way, because it could handle it.
