I just purchased a flower pot coral and it opened once and hasn't for a week, I have a 65g tank with just a few corals, they are all doing fine other than the flower pot. How can I motivate it to open??

Traditionally flower pot corals (goniopora) are notoriously hard to keep and are very short lived in a home aquaria. I had one for 3 weeks and it opened beautifully. The next day it closed up and eventually died.

Sorry, I can't help you with your coral issue.

You may want to repost this in one of the coral forums rather than the fish forum.

You could also press the red triangle below you user name and ask a mod to move the thread for you.

I have had my pink one for a year. I have it on the sand, with med flow, as long as the polys are moving it should be ok. I blow rotifers at it every three days or so.

Flow seems to be a huge factor in it opening, I would put it in an area with cover from direct flow where it can stick its polyps out in to flow. Seems to work for mine, it couldn't handle the flow that my euphyllia prefer (which is moderate flow)

+1... The best chance for success is with aquacultured pieces... Most wild caught are doomed !
