Flower Pot Coral

Should this type of flower pot coral be opening up more? Is having it in the sand ok? What else do I need to know about this flower pot?

That seems about right for that coral it is reaching very good the longest mine expands is to about three inches in length but mine is very large colony it might make a difference i think your looks healthy
