Flowerpot killed sea hare

Hi,

I noticed today that it seemed that my flowerpot and sea hare battled it out in the night. The sea hare lost and what remains of his body is stuck on the flowerpot coral. Has anyone ever had this happen before? I was told that sea hare's are reef friendly and I never thought that it would commit suicide. Please advise if doing an iodine dip is a good thing for what remains of my flowerpot.

Thanks,
Dave

First off, I can say from experience that sea hares are not totally reef friendly. Although they do leave most corals alone, they will eat the odd colony: we once had a sea hare completely strip a very large colony in one night.

If you haven't already, you need to remove the body of the sea hare, but I wouldn't perform an iodine dip on the flowerpot unless it looks like it is succumbing to a spreding infection.
