Thought I might share my first attempt at reef keeping. Had a couple of small freshwater tanks in the past, but this will be my first salt/reef set up. Got back into it after a friend gave me his tank/stand set up. I thought I got off easy...If I only knew...$$$$$ :hmm3:
72g Bowfront
I drilled for dual 1.5" bulkheads and overflow w/ 3/4" return
Premade sump w/ sock (no skimmer yet)
QuietOne 5000 return pump (~900 gph@5ft)
SecondNature powerhead
Current 4xT5 vho
2 inches of LFS live sand
~30lbs of liverock
~50lbs of baserock
Heating with a 150w glass tube in the sump and a small 50w in the tank. Keep turning these down though, temp is holding steady at 81 degrees.
GFI outlet
Got everything up and running last Friday. Liverock brought in a few snails and a crab (now two I think). I now have some algae growth on the baserock and sand. It also brought in an ever-elusive "predatory flatworm". Oh the adventure! I mentioned in my other thread about rushing the addition of livestock. But I had no idea the amount of stuff that the liverock has in it.
