Fluorescence in LPS polyps

What determines the level of flourescence in the tips of polyps? I have several Euphylia sp. in which some tips flouresce and some do not.

Thanks very much! Excellent article. Read thru it once; will need to do it again. Still not sure why some polyp tips 'glow and others don't. Will keep searching.
