Fluval Edge and 29G reef ideas?

My husband bought me a Fluval Edge 6 gal for Christmas (sweet guy, huh?).

I currently have a 29g set up with a damsel, hermits, snails, 2 peppermint shrimp, and a serpent star.

I have live sand, ocean water, and the heater in the new set up. I tossed in some fish food and hoping that it cycles quicker. The plan is to toss the damsel in there so I can put cooler fish in the 29g (since the damsel attacks any newbies). With the damsel in the 6g will be live rock, one peppermint shrimp, hermits, and snails (or so the plan is so far).

I need some opinions...

-Stocking for the 29g? I have been wanting to get corals (I have a Coralife Lunar Aqualight and 2 Hydor circulation pumps). What are some easier corals to start with?

-Lighting for the 6gal that doesn't include too much electrical work (I'd rather buy something all done than burn my house down with rewiring)?

ALSO, Where are the best places to buy in CT and online? THANKS.

Xenia and zoas are probably your best bet being it's such a small tank. I would rig up a ATO system because your salinity will fluctuate a lot in a 6 gal tank.

Hi Erin, Welcome to the ARKSC forums. I've seen quite a few of those Fluval Edge reefs, as for lighting there are a bevy of options. Most posts are about DIY'ing LEDS for that tank. Don't think there are many commercial options, but I'm not 100%

As for the 29, you have a quite a few options. You could do a Clown pair w/ host Anemone. The fixture you have has 4 bulbs of T5 HO correct? If so, thats plenty of light for a bubble tip Anemone. You could also do a pistol shrimp / goby pair too. Maybe something like a tiger pistol and a Yasha Hase.

Good luck!

Oh and ATO stands for Auto Top Off - automatically replenishes freshwater that evaporates.

Good luck with the tanks
Post some pics we love to see the progress of new tanks. Reefing is an addiction not a hobby.

Clown pair w/ host Anemone would be ideal! ATO sounds like wonderful invention:)

Yes, an addiction. My husband called the tanks my lovers just yesterday. Poor hubby!

I can't wait for the cycling to be done and add the damsel, he is a brute and getting booted from the 29G, an expensive solution but I couldn't part with him since I have had him (her?) so long! To this point the tank has sustained and meanwhile I had a baby and the tank fell to the wayside to minimum maintaining. But somehow things survived. Recharging the janitors and sand sifters a little at a time. So pretty much I have an "empty" 29g with rock, sand, snails, 2 peppermint shrimp, and a serpent star. I don't have a sump or refugium or skimmer (all I have been googling non-stop). I am not the DIY kind of person- any inexpensive ideas so I can continue feeding my human children???

I put live sand and ocean water in the 6g. I am impatient and hoping this cycles quickly. I added the live sand last weekend and the package said you can instantly add fish. Anyone have luck with that?
