Fluval Edge Nano Build - Need Suggestions -

A friend gave me a used fluval edge. I cleaned it up and am going to turn it into a nano as a side project from my main 75g reef. I'll be stocking with low light stuff like shrooms and a few things I'll frag from my main.

I'm going to buy MR 11 LED's to replace the halogens. I don't want to do a fancy 300$ nanotuners system. not necessary.

I'm curious about a few things..... MR 11 LED suggestions?

Skimmer? Anyone try putting the biocube skimmer inside the aquac20 filter? Any tiny skimmer that would fit? Is that altogether a waste of time?

Do I really NEED any filtration considering I'll have live rock and do 50% water changes once a week?

Heater --- I don't want a heater in the tank, possible to jam into the filter? If so any suggestions on a tiny heater that will do the job?

Thanks for any input!

No suggestions? I would have thought someone would have done something with a small skimmer on the edge at this point :)

There are several MR11s and MR16s on the market that you can use for te lighting. Go to youtube and type in "fluval edge mod" for excellent examples.

There is no room for a skimmer or heater in the HOB filter as far as I know. Most people will drill a hole or two somewhere and run lines to and from a sump that way.

Just putting some stuff out there that I've learned from google. :)

yep looked around a lot. What I can't find are MR16's that have white and blue, or 10k.... they are all lower k bulbs. anyone know of a 10k/420nm bulb?

Well, I looked around and there just aren't any reef compatible MR11 or 16. I ordered a PAR 38 bulb from led wholesalers and I'm going to dremel out the top of the cover and hand the par 38 above it and take out the swing arm. It will definitley spotlight and not spread as much as I'd like but I'm ok with that. I can put my sps in the spotlight and let shrooms and gsp grow to the sides. I've got two baby domino damsels and I think I'm going to try to find a small sebae anemone for them to host in :) If the bio load becomes too much I can move things to my 75 gallon reef.

Yeah, you bought the only mixed bulb I could find. Most people would just go 10K LED MR16 and then add actinic LED strips. I hope that PAR38 works out for you. :)
