Fluval Spec build

Hi all,

Long time lurker and old time poster. I have done many tanks and posted many threads a few years back. Since the selling of my 150gallon and my two bio-cubes I have taken a long break.

I was taking my little girl to look in pets mart while my wife shopped and a small little tank caught my eye. As you can guess by the thread title it was the fluval spec. I have always been a fan of the bio cube and the false wall. I went home that night thinking it would make a pretty good little pico tank.

After about 3 weeks of seeing the tank and a few fluval spec build threads read I was sold. Right back to the dark side. I have started the tank out with just some rock and sand. The tank has been up two or three weeks and already has a few inhabitants. I plan to do some zoanthid garden on the open sand and some sps up top.

Live stock:
Emerald green crab
3 dwarf blue leg hermits
Fire red shrimp
(that will be it on livestock except 2 snails)

Here is a pic or two so far...

I plan to do either a par 38 led bulb or rapidled kit...

Better hurry on the lights. My light that came with my fluval didn't last a month before 10 of the lights were either burned out of flickering. This was for a fresh water tank . The tanks are nice the lights are pure garbage. I like the rocks cape looks cool.

Wow that sucks. Light is still working but for what I wanna keep deff garbage. It will become a fuge light if it holds up.

I added in two margarita snails and a purple Xenia or anthelia frag today.

Well pulled the trigger and ordered new the new light. Originally i was gonna go with a par38 bulb from ledwholesalers, but after reading about the issues and reading about boostled it was a no brainer that boost led was the way to go.

What really sold i must say is the fact i emailed boostled.com at 8:45 pm on sunday and had a response from john at 8:49 on sunday. That says awesome customer service. I ordered the par30 bulb with two royal blue, 1 blue, 1 bright white, 1 reg white. Now the build can really begin.

Ok so got light and lfs hooked me up on some nice frags. Tha boost led is awesome. Nice bluish purple that is gonna look good, and all the shimmer you can handle.

If u buy a led bulb, boosted is the way to go. Fast shipping and great customer service.

Got some nice zoas and some gsp for 30$.

Well did my first water change today. It was 1 gallon exactly. Let the husbandry begin. Since the cycle I have only been doing top offs. I tested the water today and seen a bit of nitrates (very low) so I devised it was time. I have been feedingvthe shrimp hikari sinking pellets so I'm sure that was the culprit.

Ange your jbj is nice looking. Are you getting those sps from fjw? Do they have a decent amount of frags and how are the prices. A while back whenbi was doing.my 150 gallon tank me and Dennis the owner traded corals for his older reef equipment. Also do they have ricordias that you know of.

Thanks! And yeah, the majority of the SPS is from Dennis. He stocks a bunch of mostly high-end SPS, LPS, softies, and clowns. He has tons of rics right now.

Well went fjw and bought the hyancinth birdsnest. This is my first sps so hope all goes well. Will post pictures when it adjusts.

No I didn't but really wished I had. I ordered the hydor pico 180 and it is huge in this tank. Was hoping to use as return but need to figure out a way.

We'll got motivated enough and after some sanding and housing removing got the pump in the back resevore. Going to try and find a way to place the older pump in behind my rock to kill any dead spaces. I think I will also remove the bottom piece of lr to allow more room. Will smash rock and add to back chamber. I would not reccomend this tank to anyone due to lack of space.
