Fluval Spec pump installation question

I am attempting to set up my new Fluval Spec and am having a heck of a time getting the pump to fit in the pump chamber. Has anyone else run into this issue and how did you overcome it? The company says that the intake needs to be facing the "side" of the tank and not the front or the back but that seems impossible. THanks.

which spec do you have? i have the new spec 5 and my pump is positioned so that the power cord is towards the back of the tank.
