I started the QT on Aug-10th with the following configuration
- mixed RO/DI water with RedSea Coral Pro Salt
- two 200w Visi-Therm Delexe heaters
- two Vortech ES MP40w
- one Sarlo Better 2000 pump - return
- five vials of ProdiBio Stop Ammo
- five vials of ProdiBio BioDigest

This is the product:

After 12 hours I add some frags and fishes and one clam - love it!!!

I'm taking measurements every single day and:
Ammonia = 0.0
Nitrite = 0.0
Nitrate = 5ppm
Phosphate = 0.12
Salinity = 1023
Temperature = 25.5 degrees Celsius / 77.9 degrees Fahrenheit

Everything looks good but i'm getting some brow algae spots... let's wait...

Powder Brown Tang rubbing on substrate - is it ich? photos

Powder Brown Tang rubbing on substrate - is it ich? photos

Hi Guys,

I need your help here. On friday last week I acquired a power brown tang. It's eating and swimming normally. However, on saturday I noticed it rubbing one side of its body along the substrate and today there is a black/dark-ish spot in its body, beyond that it's seems it can't defecate - just check these pics:

The other white spots are substrate grains - not ich.

What do you guys think is happening, is it ich??? And about the 'defecate problem' / stool issues, what should I do??

I just transfer it from my QT tank (big one - 80g) to an hospital tank (15g) and thinking to try the 3 day transfer method mixed with hypo salinity method.

After 15 hours moved to hopital tank, it don't defecate yet and the feces keep right up there and it keep trying to rub the left side of its body on bottom glass. It keep swimming and eating - i'm feeding New Life Thera+, Tetra Color Marine Flakes and Nori.

Please, help me to keep it alive!

Thanks in advance!

just this picture right now - can you see the dark-ish spot and the feces spot?

another relevant information: after acclimatization procedures I just put in QT with another clown tang - a smaller one and some times I saw the clown tang beating the powder brown nothing beyond the normal but it was exactly on that dark-ish spot...

ps: come back later to update this thread.

2things.
your clove polyps look like a toadstool leather (not that it matters, but just informative)

Ich can be treated with a fresh water dip or with medication. Cleaner shrimp can help also.
I don't know what the dark spots are unless they are stress spots.

Also, my tangs eat like crazy, and randomly they have poo hanging from them, but it usually falls off over time, or during the next feeding when they poo again. I hope everything works out for you...

clove polyps? it is a nori (do you know?) that I fixed on front glass...

thanks dahenley, still trying to figure out if it is ich or stress caused by clown tang...

i've a great news the powder brown just did a huge poo right now!! LOL no stool issues anymore! :lol2: :debi:

about your tangs, have you tried to 'combine' a clown and powder brown tang on the same tank?

I ment star polyps, not clove polyps. (The picture above the zoas, you said it was star polyps, but it looks like a very happy toad stool leather )

Yes and no.
I added a clown tang to my tank (powder blue, yellow,sail fin, and blue hippo) and the powder blue has been with me for 3+ years, and is king of the tank. He bullies everything.
After about 2 weeks, things are usually fine. I did end up loosing the clown tang due to lack of feeding.... I have to feed on both sides of my tank, or just the tangs will eat everything and starve everything else. And I ended up going out of town for a few weeks, and it disappeared during tank sitting.... (rip) but later, I did get a orange shoulder tang, and he has been hanging in there no problem.
