Foam & Live Rock commbo

ah, that is interesting that the wood and rocks will balance eachother out. also I didnt know cichlids like a higher pH, shows the extent of my FW knowledge!

sorry to revive this but i was wanting to know the final consensus on the black pond foam. Can you use the black pond foam by itself, or do you have to coat it with the epoxy resin for it to be safe?

I kinda copied :D

also 15minute and 20 minute epoxy from Bob smith industries are marine safe. I ended up talking to the people there and they said they are perfectly safe and won't leach

no built thread yet as I was in the process of changing to a better job and that took almost all my time. I will have a thread in about 2 weeks, but i'm not sure where i'ma start it, most likely here in diy just keep a look out as the stand tanks light all have been diy

yeah I got my rock from bulk too there really good.

ok....I'm back!

Having seen everyone copy my idea I thought i should move things on a bit :D

I have recently made some big changes to the live stock in the tank and have removed many of the SPS (wife hated them, boring she said) and gone for lots of zoas, mushrooms, LPS for movement and flow.

The encrusting nature of many of these means i need more rock space and the section of my tank on the left back wall (seen here side on) was crying out for more rock work.....it photos nice like this but in reality it's a big gap where there could be rock.

So the challenge was to fill that triangle of back wall with more rock, some out crops and hiding holes...yet have it protrude no more than a few inches into the tank yet actually go above the water level at the top......so with a bucket of reef bones, two tunze magnets and some foam i have made a "stick on" reef wall that weighs 30-40lb but will be naturally buoyant in the tank (due to the foam) and so easily held in place by the magnets.

Pics to follow :D

I am currently in the process of setting up a second tank due to my wife hating sps as well :mad2:
