Foam or no foam for Marineland DD tank?

I am putting together a 300g DD tank in-wall and wanted to know if I should use foam or not. I believe it is a no-no to use it between the tank and stand itself. But what if I put the foam on top of the stand and then a piece of plywood on top of the foam? I am thinking the foam would help with any imperfections of the stand and not directly impacting the tank since it will be sitting on the plywood. Thoughts?

I would say that this is were you can spend some money on plywood when i build my stand i made the top of the stand the same thickness as the bottom of the tank.
You can also use something like star board inside the tank for a buffer on point load if you are putting your rock on the bottom then sand around the rock.

I decided to use 1/2" foam under my acrylic tank (homemade stand) and I did exactly what you are thinking of doing. The foam would have torn because of the weight of the tank so I put a 1/4" piece of melamine on top of the foam and then the tank slid right into place.

I would not use the foam on glass. It really should only be used on acrylic since those tanks can have some flex. Glass will not flex, but crack. I would agree with the leveling cement if there was any concerns on it not being level. You can get it at your local lowes or home depot for about $40 bucks. Hopefully you did not already go the foam route. Good luck
