What is the desired width of foam to use?

I didn't know what you were going to use it for. I don't think the foam at Joanne's in dense enough for that. I've heard that some people have gotten it at Home Depot in the past.

Sam - check into the foam pads that are used for laminate floor. Home Depot or Lowes will have them. The one sold at Costco are junk, so I wouldn't recommend the Costco one. They come in various quality, so check them out before purchasing them.

We have always used the white foam sheet insulation, found at both Lowes and Homd Depot (in the insulation isle). That is also what I have seen others use on their tanks. HTH

The white foam works fine. My friend use it on his tank. Buy from HD. OSH charges too much for it.

Doesn't the white foam insulation sheet compress too much? How thick are the foam insulation sheet?

just to set the record straight.... its styrofoam that your gonna be looking for with a thin layer of plastic on top and bottom. its in the roofing section of lowes or HD. I forget the name but its white with big blue print on it.

Tap Plastics has closed-cell foam (not stryo) in rolls that seems to be more resistant to compression.
