Food for Azoox corals

Hello,

Lets make a list/database of the different foods we have access to for feeding our Azoox corals.

post whatever description you can think of, of the food ... particle size, what it feeds and what you try to feed and so on,

I use :

Fauna marine Sea fan
Red powder, Great response from colored seafans and gorgonians. as well as carnation.

Fauna marine Min F
the feather stars love it, mix it with seafan and feed the whole tank.

Reef Roids
150-200 micron. seems to get response from colored seafans. also feather stars seem to enjoy it [they expand their arms]

industrial super concentrated Phyto
I feed once a day, read some papers that show oysters and many other shelled Azoox animals feeding on artificial foods better with scent of Phyto around ! the one I use does nto clogg, so seems small enough for carnation and others too.

Reef nutrition Oyster feast
I think 1-200 micron ?
great response from the seafans, specially the blueberry. Carnation gets enough energy to hold it self up right.

reef nutrition Rotifeast
seems to get most of the corals to open and expand polyps, starfish specially enjoy it.

the above is based on My Observations, after about 4-5 months of feeding and keeping these animals in their dedicated system, I could be wrong and my observations could be flawed, so please do correct me if you find something incorrect, and please do share what you feed ! would love to diversify my feeding more.

I should Also add :

PE mysis :
Feed the sun polyps.

Cyclopeze :
frozen and freeze dried. frozen gets sun corals to expand faster.

interesting ! Im gonna find a way to get it up here in canada, where do you buy it from ?

any more ? please share everyone :)

They come in many different sizes. The larger ones are great for LPS.

nice, I wonder if Fauna marine Dry foods are also whey and yeast based.

I also wonder if NatuRose and Hi Carotenoid Marine Algae Mix that brine shrimp direct offers can be used for food for Azoox corals ?

Gonna order some GP today, see how it is, thanks Zeph :)

well I did alot of research on the subject of golden pearls, and found that they are not good. specially due to the wheat thing. so will skip that :)

anyone using anything else ?

yea? News to me. Ive had these carnations for almost 14 months now.

your tank is nice, but not fully NPS dedicated. I believe you have the carnation in the fuge ?

never the less, is the primary food they get golden pearls ? what size ?

first, GP contains wheat and yeast .. wheat is not taken by corals well, according to claud from FM it cloggs in their guts and kills the polyp. he also has a good point about nutritions, its fish food, not coral food.

I have tried feeding sun corals same type of food, even fish pellets, they do eat it, it does have a taste, but they trow it up after ! I have actually opened a Sun polyp before to see the clogged rotting pellet pieces inside. not a biologist, so my observation was just that ... an observation :)

I know there are more NPS keepers out there ... come on dont be shy ...

The carnations are in the seahorse tank, but all others are in the nps/clam tank. I dont like fuges and dont run one. Here is what I feed my reefs daily.

tahitian blend cryo preserved phyto 24/7 drip
target feed the following mix :
phyto
rotifers
daphnia
kent liquid microvert
gp 5 - 50 microns.

I was just looking at the NPS stuff......BUT HOLY COW!!!!!! How big is you clam, Zeph??? That thing is a beast!

great thread that im surprised more people are not jumping in on

ill add the foods im using as of right now...i dont have many nps yet but ,y list does include

Swiftia exserta
diodorgorgia nodulifera "red"
diodorgorgia nodulifera "yellow"
Tubastraea coccinea
small orange carnation coral that i just got
4 different sponges
and a basket star I just got

foods im using

ZoPlan by two little fishies
Fuel by aquavitro
Phyto feast by reef nutrition
zooplex by kent
microvert by kent
chromaplex by kent
and powdered cyclop-eez.

Ive noticed growth in most of my carnations, not all, but the good news is the very first one I purchased is actually doing the best, when other have came and gone. Im actually going to stop using golden pearls because of what you have said. Ive always felt the most important food is the phyto blend and the rotifers/daphnia. I also like oyster eggs and will use them again. The sea fans are easy and I dont even fuss with them much, they just get leftovers from the soft coral feedings. but yes, they have definitely been growing.

He he heee...thats my girl! We call her BIG BERTHA. Shes about 25" and Ive had her for 7 years. SHes in the NPS tank, and since gigas clams are the best "eaters" shes getting fed 24/7. My pride and joy!!! THanks!!

I use Kent zooplex -M and also chromoplex just to mix things up sometimes. I really like Kent Microvert as its pure liquid. Try mixing microvert with marine snow and taget feeding with a small mouth feeder. It forms beatiful little nutrition blankets that wrap around your corals.

usually when i dose my liquids i first turn the skimmer off then in a little deli cup i mix together all the liquids. usually all of equal parts minus the phyto i give a little more. 30 mintues before i dose the foods i dose the fuel....when i dose i try to target them all but sometimes im lazy and i only do this maybe 2-3 times a week. i can see the gorgs reacting to the food and swallowing some of the pieces

Where did you get the carnations from ? Its hard to find sources, atleast I think so. Ive only purchased them from LiveAquaria and they are always the same red ones. Ide love some other colors.

I actually picked mine up at the frag swap at the end of feburary. its from the guy who makes the LED crew in bulbs...i maybe wrong as to if he makes them but he was there.

my local stores bring them in every once in a while. just ask your local ma and pa store for some and make sure you tell them you under stand they are hard to keep to cut the convo short...its more annoying to here a speech you already know about then it is to actually find them.

im planning to get a carnation here soon and some other stuff. have some good hook ups on NPS corals around my parts
