C critterkeeper New member Aug 8, 2006 #2 I'm guessing that it's not actually its foot, but its byssus - which is not living tissue. The clam can make a new one. The actual foot likes like a fleshy little tounge that can protrude from the bottom of the shell, not a fibrous structure.
