for all those with a LOUD nano remora! improved noise dampening mod!

I was reading around as to how to quiet the little nano remora beast in my living room, and i have improved upon a method I've found, involved 20 cents worth of material, and does not require any change to the body of the remora.

Cut out 2 pieces of thin plastic (i used the top to a disposable ziploc container) at 1-3/4x2-3/8 inch.

take saran wrap and wrap both pieces about 6 or 7 times separately, then fold or place the two separately wrapped pieces on top of each other.

Remove the skimmate cup, and wedge the two saran wrapped pieces of plastic just above the inlet faucet, in the left hand pocket.

Thats it! This does NOT affect the skimmate in any way, or the flow.

The layers of saran wrap create air pockets between the two structral pieces of plastic, creating a very nice sound dampening affect. Sound almost disappears!

Let me know if you have any questions.

I also am using the nano remora. While I'm not having a huge issue with noise, I'm always interested in a mod :) Do you happen to have any pics of the mod in place?

You could also use a paper towel folded to fit in that space. That's what I have in mine and it's virutally silent.

I can get a picture of it in place, but its pretty self descriptive. if required, but its pretty self descriptive.

There is no change in external look, or skimmer cup seating or anything.

They problem i can see with a paper towel is degradation/loss of rigidity. Also the plastic saran wrap created that air layer that acts as a sound baffle.

Decreased Performance?? I don't see how thats possible. This mod doesn't touch the water, doesn't affect the water flow, and does not change the bubble creation process at all.

xirxes, do an experiment yourself.
i found that a week's skimmate production was half that with that same mod.

well im just setting up, so i just today got my first skimmate after a week, but i will do the experiment in about a month, after it is fully broken in.

also i have a 10G, which doesnt at this time have any fish, so my test may not be conclusive until i get my fridmani pseudo.
