For ReefKeeper users...free software

I dont know the details, but in lieu of $$, Cameron negotiated something for members of the Atlanta Reefers Club. They are announcing it tomorrow.

There were a lot of things i liked about the app, but I liked how he was dedicated to the cause and talented enough to get it done. Compared to many of the other RC projects like this (which often don't even get off the ground), this was lightning fast.

Sometimes someone would post an idea or change request, and he would add it to the app and post a new version.

Well, it was brilliance on Neptunes part. They take something that was greatly enhancing the utility of the much less expensive RK2 out of the market.

I honestly didn't expect the software to stay free or continue to be enhanced at that rapid of a pace indefinately, but I really didn't believe that it would end as quickly as it started.

DOH....knew something so good cant last forever!

Kudos to Cameron for suppling us with some great software, software that works quite well i might add, and has awesome features!

It will be nice to see what Neptune decides to do with it...hopefully they will offer something universal...hint...that can work with pretty much any type of controller....wishful thinking, i know, yet still....sure would be nice!

I have the latest ReefTool 1.72 that as you see works with the RK2 controller....so if any is so inclined...PM me....of course i offer no guarantees that it will work for you or not.

Keep Reefin.......>)))).>

Can you believe Cameron sold the software to Neptune? Wow, that was quick.

I really like the software and hope that Neptune supports it and continues to improve upon it.

This is kinda of a strange deal IMHO. The app was a good start, but still had a lot of work to have the same functionality as the old aquanotes (though admittedly with a FAR nicer and up to date interface). I don't see why Neptune just didn't code a new version of Aquanotes from scratch, as it wouldn't have taken THAT long with a halfway decent programmer to catch up.

Though if they truly got the software for free, it sounds like they got a really good deal...

Question... Did the last versions of the software attempt to talk directly to an Aquacontroller or anything like that? If you look on Neptune's website they go on about trade secrets and reverse engineering (which from what I know of the subject cannot even be applied to a communication protocol) in their docs, and I'm almost wondering if they hassled him into this move. Of course that still wouldn't make sense as he could have just removed the communications portion if he didn't want to deal with any possible legal entanglements.

Strange deal. :)
