I never met Rob, talked to Rob or even heard of Rob until the news of his death hit this site. I have read everyones post on Rob and today I feel like I knew him. As a person who has a passion for the rare fish you never think about what goes into collecting these fish, you see a picture on a website or a fish swimming around your LFS. Guys like Rob are why we have seen some of the rarest fish enter the hobby, they inspire us to want more. Its sad that something like this has happened. The fish stuff aside, I am more saddened that his young daughter is now without a father. One thing that we can do as hobbyst is to donate to his fund even if its just a small amount. Dealing with the loss of a husband and father is tough enough, but dealing with financial issues should be the least of there worries right now.

Jim - you hit the nail on the head. The last thing that people need to deal with after a death is the money. There is support and energy that needs to be focused on the family and friends dealing with his loss.

I have donated a good chunk of money to this and will continue to do so as long as the fund exists because of my personal relationship with Rob and the fact that I lost a great friend...

A lot of small amounts add up quickly and everything helps.

As Cam said, you did meet Rob for a short period in your Earli thread...but this was the "crazy" side of Rob. He loved diving and loved everything about it and his passion is very evident when you talked to him. I spent an entire day with him at the Waikiki Aquarium and we went through every fish in all the tanks and he was like a little kid. We talked about his PNG trips with the curator and discussed the Abei's angel and you could see his eyes get wide and I could just hear him say to himself..."im going to get one of these damn things" :)

Actually Jim, you did meet Rob on one your earli thread.....(makaveli):)
Makaveli - was his alter ego...kind of like the evil superman. This was not a good view on Rob or his nature...I actually had a discussion with him about how he was reacting during the thread...

So scubarob and makaveli2010 are the same person?

Yup...the yin and the yang

lol.....yup steve...they were.....crazy rob.

Cam - you got that right...crazy rob...god I loved that about him...you never knew who you were going to get day to day...

Nice of Les to have the site and was my pleasure to donate and hope many others here do too....Not sure if Rob caught my Crosshatch pair, but it's certainly possible.

Yes, Les is pretty upset about it. We had quite a few back and forths yesterday about this whole situation. I too donated as soon as I saw the site. My son is about the same age as his daughter and I couldn't image if that happened to me.

I had a single 30 minute conversation with Rob a few months back. He was a very likeable person with an obvious passion for what he did. I too will be making a donation.

Thats it I want my donation back:lmao: It did seem a bit odd that a guy with 11 posts knew Brian Greene, had way to much knowledge for a newbie. I just figured Makaveli was someone who had been banned and came back to basically just stir up crap. I appreciate his sense of humor in hind sight. You knew he was a good man, because he did apologize when he got under a few skins on that post. I can't say that I know him, but I now picture this guy sitting at his computer gently poking at me through my thread with generalizations and a little "i'm know way more about everything than you all attitude". Then he sees a couple people get put out by his alter egos comments and Rob quickly steps in to apologize for his alter ego's behavior. :worried: I now wish I had met the real Rob. Keep donating people! His wife and daughter will appreciate it and see just how there husband and dad had an impact on fellow fish geeks around the world.

Such a devastating loss of a great, passionate fellow hobbyists and diver. He always brought smiles to my face and laughs all night as we went back and forth about fish, diving, and life itself. I've been off the forums for a while until an email about Rob came through. Devastated, but he will live on in all of us... one love bro.
