Reeflo pump that will set beside a plywood sump (I know, it's practice before building a tank). The question is do you always feed it through the side, or is there some slick way of up and over someone has come up with? I know with up and over it would have to be primed somehow, but I am thinking the glass sump guys may have wanted to avoid vibration of bulkheads causing possible breakage. Pics welcome:beer:

I ran mine through the side when I had it as the reeflo pump I had was not self-priming.
Had no problems with the bulkhead.

Feed it through the side, going over the tank generally will create cavitation due to friction loss caused by the additonal 90's. You can make it work temporarily by increasing the pipe diameter and priming but for extended use (longer than a test period) you are looking to destroy your pump.

When the power is lost the up and over siphon is normally lost, a very high water level in your sump and it may not. you cannot trust the up and over system to start without manual intervention.

Good choice with installing bulkhead:) If you have room try to run at least 12" min. of line/spa flex between bulkhead and pump...better would be....15" for 1 1/2" inlet/20" for 2" inlet. This will help with sound and allow a constant water volume to gravity feed pump.

I ran an over the top on a closed loop for years no issues with a dart pump
just have to set it up right... but I do think drilling is better
