forcing a green slimer to branch

I have a green slimmer with a nice encrusted base and one long finger of growth that is about 8" long. The branch has recently split into a second finger but the coral is pretty ugly other than the color.

Around the base there are multiple fingers about 1" long that dont grow. I would love more branches on this piece but not sure how to encourage them to cooperate.

ANy and all suggestions appreciated!

I'm in the same boat. I have a short 2" frag the encrusted the whole plug and is now moving to the surrounding rock but the branch doesn't seem to grow. It been close to a year I think. I was under the impression GS was one of the faster growers, not in my tank though.

I have a feeling there is no answer to the question though. But sometimes things will sit still and then all of a sudden explode...

The main branch grows like crazy! I have cut it twice already to give friends frags. Maybe i cut one of the smaller fingers and try to stimulate new growth there.

If all of the fingers would grow this piece would be a beast!

That would probably help, if I were you, cut down the long finger and glue/epoxy it RIGHT next to the bottom of the original colony, make it look like its was always a part of it......may make it look more like what you want :) it'll slowly encrust the rock also, making it look more like one.

I wouldn't recommend putting a piece under the colony, it could grow directly up and the pieces may fight for real-estate, but next to it would make it look nice.

Mine won't grow a base but grows fast and fingers good. Mine seem to branch usually where I cut it. Mine covers a lot of real estate

Green slimer

Green slimer

I have a huge green slimer colonie best way i found to get it to branch was a lot of intermitant flow not so much the polyps wont open but enough to shake them around hard for a while then let them relax for a while.

Put it in more flow. I had something similar until I was directed to put it in higher flow and since then...

Yes, more random flow. Judging by the photo, I'm guessing you have a lot of flow coming from the top right. More flow is also believed to create thicker branches, though some spoilers have thicker branches to begin with.
