Forecast of my E-Bill

Hey Guys I'm trying to figure out how much my electricity bill will be if I move to SF. I currently live in an apartment in Santa Clara and my bill never gets above $60. I've heard stories of $400 bills due to fishtank and am wondering if I am paying so little because I live in an apartment.

I have:
250w no-name halide ballast w/250w SE 14k bulb
Euro-Reef skimmer CS6 (___ watts?)
mag3 (35w)
Hydor Koralia 1 (2x at 3.5w)
small Hydor 200w heater

Should I expect a n dirty surprise when I open my first E-bill in SF?

it really depends

the story you hear could be because people have big tanks like me.

I run almost 2k watt at full speed.

You could probably end up going to 60-100 a month depending on how big the tank, the duration of the lights, etc.

Do you not pay for electricity in your apartment? If you do pay, then it shouldn't be much more than Santa Clara, maybe even cheaper since there's no air conditioning here :)

If you were to live in SF then see if you can get an apartatment where you don't have to pay for utilities i.e. pg&e and/or water.

I was thinking the same thing :)

Actually, your bill will likely jump quite a bit if you actually live in Santa Clara and are currently covered by Santa Clara Power. Santa Clara's power company is self regulated and thus provides a much cheaper rate than PG&E. I moved several years ago from Santa Clara to San Jose and I am currently paying just over $200 (up easily from like $70). If you do end up in PG&E land, you will be paying much more.

:fish1::hammer:

Yep, Santa Clara gets a sweetheart deal on the electricity rates. I lived there several years ago and my rates more than doubled when I moved to Mountain View.
