Formalin baths--any fish to avoid this with?

I like giving my fish a formalin bath (37% for 45mins) as part of my QT protocol (TTM combined with prazi before moving onto my QT tank for six weeks of observations).

Copper is not great for any fish but it can certainly be harsher on some more than others even at low levels... With that same line of thinking, are there any fish that I should avoid formalin as a prophylactic treatment on?

Thanks
Mike

None I know of. These are the fish I gave formalin baths without issues:

  • Amphiprion percula - (True Clownfish)
  • Calloplesiops altivelis - (Marine Beta)
  • Chrysiptera starcki - (Starck's Damselfish)
  • Cryptocentrus cinctus - (Yellow Watchman Goby)
  • Doryrhamphus excisus - (Blue Stripe Pipefish)
  • Ecsenius bicolor - (Bicolor Blenny)
  • Gramma loreto - (Royal Gramma)
  • Opistognathus rosenblatti - (Blue Spot Jawfish)
  • Pseudochromis cyanotaenia - (Bluelined Dottyback)
  • Pseudochromis aldabraensis - (Neon Dottyback)
  • Pseudochromis fridmani - (Orchid Dottyback)
  • Pterapogon kauderni - (Banggai Cardinalfish)
  • Pygoplites diacanthus - (Regal Angelfish)

I've used it on all of the common damsels and chromis. Also just about all the common anthias including borbonius. I may have had issues with mandarins and jawfish or it may have been they were already beyond hope and the formalin just pushed them over the edge.

My original plan was to treat ALL new fish with formalin dips but figured it would be a good idea to see if there were fish known to not handle it well... looks like I'll still with plan A.

Thanks for the responses.
Mike
