Found a cure for aptasia lol

I had a few aptasia that i have been battling with no luck, and some other anemones that are a PITA too. I found that if they are on a rock that has no other corals on it 3 minutes in a microwave will cure the issue. They pop like popcorn haha. I have some small greem anemones that hitchhiked in also that spread faster then aptasia and kill everything they touch. There was one on a rock i bought and within a month there were well over a hundred of them. They even show up on the glass, and if you smash them they spead like bubble algae. They met thier match in the microwave today though lol.

Don't think they are Manjano. I have never seen these before. They are green and just look like mini BTA's. My main lights are off for the night, but here are a few pics. I call em Herpes anemones lol. Can't get rid of em. I have injected them with Joe's juice, vinigar, boiling water, and calk paste. The nuking is the first time i have killed them, but they are all over rocks that i can't nuke too.

Look like majanos to me.

Be careful nuking the rock, expanding water vapor deep inside could cause it to explode.

HaHa Greg has a good point that would be priceless..... I could just see it now your insurance agent " So exactly what caused the microwave to explode and destroy the kitchen" ?

First off my insurance just went up by $500 a year so i would love that lol. If that's manjano, then does anyone know of any critters that will eat them?

I had a ton of Aptasia until I added 3 peppermint shrimp...now I have zero!! That is one of the few things my LFS told me that was dead on right.

I guess the $500 increase is a fair trade off for a $20,000 kitchen loss. Sounds reasonable to me. :worried:

I injected them with lemon juice and everything else i listed above. They weren't even phased by it.

Might try Aiptasia-X, but I've heard its essentially the same thing as Joe's Juice. I've heard copperbands MIGHT go after them, but I wouldn't count on it, and adding a fish to control a couple pest anemones seems a bit overkill anyway.

I know I may get blasted for a newb move here, but I also had aptasia I could not get rid of, came in on LR from LFS.

I took 1/4 tsp of marine buffer powder and added it to about 3ml of water. Put it in a eye dropper and shot it rite in their mouth. BAM no more aptasia.

Ok I think the microwave idea is good funny and dangerous all at once but I would also believe you might kill off any benefical bacteria. What about using a bernzomatic torch on the removed rock. More concentrated fire with less collateral damage.

Actually the microwave worked great on the rocks i did it to. I'm sure if you nuked them too long they might break, but 3 minutes isn't that long. Didn't seem to be any issues with it. I just did a few rocks so i'm not worried about the bacteria issue. I don't have any aptasia left, just the green ones in the picture that seem to be bullet proof so far. I have injected them with everything i can think of and they just seem to eat it and pop right back up. I need to find something that eats them i guess, and peppermints don't touch them, plus my clowns eat the peppermints like candy lol.
