I think a skimmer would be necessary, since they eat live snails and crabs and stuff, there might be some ammonia build up. Maybe later on anyway. I wish I had a mantis tank...

i would keep it, they make a fun pet and you dont need a skimmer for a mantis... they are the cockroach of the sea

You can set the tank up fast with the removal of water from the main tank (partial water change)
