This lemonade frag looked fine yesterday but today when I came it had totally rtn'd and the skeleton is green. Ive showed the picture to a couple of people and one suggestion was phosphate wicking and the other was a protein infection.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Sucks when that happens. Any idea as to why?

I am dipping for aefw right now and had that happen to a couple.

You don't have flatworms do you?

Blame the dog! Hes looking very suspicious back there.

If I remember correctly I too had a pink lemonade rtn and the skeleton was greenish also others aswell. Interesting to think there could be a connection.

Lol oh yeah the dog loves to be in the middle of everything! She sits by the tank and barks at the fish. Lol

Aefw would not make a whole frag die overnight. It would take a number of days and happen slowly all depending on the degree of infestation. I would start at the basics, most of the time it's the simple things that we forget to do. Changing filters, checking pumps, testing, ect...

What is phosphate wicking and what is a protein infection?

good questions...

I seem to recall hearing once about an invasive algae that can basically get under the skin of an acro- with this result..
not sure if it is an urban (reefing) legend..

how old is your tank?

I haven't been able to find anything on protein infections but found some old posts on po4 wicking. My understanding is the coral acts like a wick and draws phosphate out of the rock thru the skeleton of the coral. The coral then dies from the inside out. I just moved this frag from my frag tank into the display over the weekend.

Tank has been running almost two years now. My po4 stays between .03-.05.
