Hi everyone... I have a big question.. can I substain a sg level of 1.012 on a fowlr tank? I hear people said it can help prevent parasite in the DT.. I know LFS does it too.. but why are people not doing in home aquarium.. my friend have run a fowlr tank with 1.014 sg for 6 months now and all his fishes and doing fine without a problem...Can some expert help me understand this better? are there any setback as far as running the sg level at lower level?

If you lower the salt level in your maintank by that much you will kill all your liverock/corals/ and inverts. The best choice would be the set up a QT tank and treat the fish in there.

Fish stores do this to save on salt cost. Many chain fish stores will have their salt level low since they go through so much water each week. Plus they get in so many fish and they go out so fast, they have to watch out for diseases that may come into their systems.
