Hey everybody,
I have a fox coal that has developed an outbreak of aiptasia. There are about 10 or so on the base of the fox coral. How would you get rid of them? If I use Joe's juice or similar will it harm the fox coral or should I be ok?
Any dip that would kill the aiptasia would most likely harm your coral. You could place the coral in a bowl of tank water and use a drill bit to twist a small indention in the skeleton where the anemones are. Then clean the skeleton with an old tooth brush and rinse it off real good before placing it back in the tank. Discard the water when you are done.
Agree with Bcollins- smother the aptasias in paste. It won't harm your coral. I once treated a GSP that had a small aptasia in the middle of the colony- a little Kpaste did the trick and the GSP didn't even mind.
Don't try to manually remove- scraping away is not effective- you will undoubtably miss the most miniscule amount of tissue and new ones will crop up in it's place.
