Fox Face, anyone got one.

I just picked up a Fox yesterday. Seems like a good reef fish. I read they could nip at corals but my LFS guy said not to worry. Fish acclimated great and within minutes was pecking away at algae. This is why I got him. My 3-inch clowns put their face in his at first, but he made an aggressive stance and they must have learned not to F with him.

Yeah, don't worry. That's what I thought and then my entire zoa collection on my back wall started disappearing. These guys are a 50/50 gamble and even then, it doesn't mean they won't acquire a taste for your corals down the road. Lovely fish, but never again in my reef tank.

I have a magnificent fox face. He does fine with the others - very friendly and best pals w/my Blond Naso. He will also show "an aggressive stance" but nothing beyond that.

Clip some seaweed for him to pick it and graze on. Good luck.

If the Clowns are a mated pair, they will teach the FF where he's welcome in a big hurry.They are extremely territorial. I hope you don't regret not quarantining the FF.

Yes, I might regret not QT'n it. My QT tank is being used to cure LR for a new tank coming next week. My fingers are crossed. As for the Clowns, I have 3 huge ones the LFS said they got from a customer who had all three for a while. They are not territorial at all and so far aren't even going near the Fox who seems to have full reign of the tank.

I put some seaweed on the clip but he hasn't touched it, instead picking at the algae on the rocks. Was even eating algae off the paraphernalia on the top of my urchin's back. :spin3:

I had a foxface, loved him and he never touched any of the corals. Only time he accidentally nipped a shroom when he was going after some bubble algae. He was one of my favorite fish but got too big for my 75g and you could tell he was stressed and was stressing the tank mates too. What size tank do you have him in?

I have a FF in my 125 mixed reef, model citizen if you ask me. I have multiple clams and 20 or so different corals, some SPS, LPS, and a few softies. I have never had an issue, he loves nori tied to a rock or on a clip, just keep him well fed and you should be fine.

That's good to hear. I only have a 75G, 41" long. Hope that's big enough.

Is it Siganus vulpinus? Vulpinus and unimaculatus (same fish actually) are the only two that are reef safe. Others MAY nip at corals. Sometimes they behave for years in a reef tank. Rabbits are more prone to eat corals...
But as we know, fishes can have some strange eating habits
