Foxface Rabbitfish

I think I would like to add a Rabbitfish to my 315gal mixed reef. Maybe a to Foxface but I kind of like the look of the Blue line Rabbitfish ( not sure on the name). I have never had any experience with either one so I'm curious as to there personality. Is one better than the other. Do some look better in person Then the pics I'm seeing? I know some get large and I would prefer one that stays under 10 ". Just curious about people's experiences. Are you happy with your purchase? What makes it a good purchase?

Thanks for any and all info

Two One-Spot Foxface were actually the first two fish I started with. They are active and interesting fish. Although they are the largest fish in my system, they are the biggest babies! Any "disruption" and they change colors like a chameleon, stick their dorsal fins up and go hide. It's actually pretty amusing. They will eat anything (they are actually pigs) and I keep them fed well so they haven't bothered any corals, with the exception of a Yellow Finger Gorgonian, which they destroyed within a day or two!

If I'm not mistaken they can get to be around 7-8" +/-, so not too large. No experience with other Rabbitfish so I have no comparison to offer there.

Thanks for your experience. I have a gorgonian so this might not happen. Thought gorgonians were not on the menu for most fish. Hmmm

Thought the same thing. Ironically, I have a Purple Gorgonian (Pseudopterogorgia sp.) in the display as well. The Foxface never bother it. However, when I put the Yellow Finger (Diodogorgia nodulifera) in, they went nuts. Go figure!!!

great at keeping algae down, really cool to watch change colors when they're scared or just waking up in the morning. no fish bother them and they dont bother any fish. be careful of getting stuck when adding them to the tank but other than that its a great, useful fish with plenty of personality.

my qualm with this fish has nothing to do with the fish itself. i always preferred the yellow foxface, which is cheap and easy to find. the magnificent is nearly the same and is usually twice as expensive or more. why??

I had a foxface. Great fish. Like a scared puppy. Only problem I had was it was a pig and would push fish aside to steal food, hahaha

IMO, the Blue Lined Rabbitfish- Siganus doliatus is the best choice.
I've had a Magnificent and a Bi-color as well but the Doliatus is my all time favorite.

Awesome feedback guys thank you. I have a purple gorgonian and a Magnificent Anemone that are myy only concerns. Anyone else have any issues with Gorgs?

No experience with keeping these fish with gorgonians.

But I have both a One-spot Foxface and a Scribbled Rabbitfish in my mixed reef tank.
Both fish are great. They get along with each other, and a couple of tangs, very well; no aggression at all.
Great algae eaters! I have never had any algae issues in the display tank, even though I get algae growing in my sump. The foxface will devour any bubble algae I have had come in on frags; haven't had any recently to test the rabbitfish.
Neither fish has bothered any corals. And I keep SPS, LPS and zoanthids.

Of the two fish, the Scribbled Rabbitfish was one of the fish from my "Must-have's" list. A definite beauty.

Great guys thank you so much for your experiences. Im thinking the rabbitfish is a must have for me. Still a little concerned about the Gorgonian so any more info on that would be appreciated.

My scribbled rabbit developed a taste for zoas after a couple of years. I gave them up to keep "Spike". 7 years with me and he is still my favorite. I call him an emotional fish, always spooky and changing colors.
