My Foxface appears to be very stressed this last week. Darting back and forth from one side of the tank to the other all day. He also continues to stay dark in color. The top of both pectoral fins are red as well as the joints where the fin is connected to his body. Water perimeters are good and the only change in the tank is that we had to remove our Koran Angel because he got too big for the 85 gallon aquarium. The fox and angel were raised together and are approximately 6 years old. I assume fox misses angel but has anyone experienced a somber fish to this extreme? Does anyone have any advice about his fins? He's being somewhat picky about his food because he is too busy swimming back and forth, but he is still eating.

Have you tested the water recently?

Sometimes when fish pace and act in an erratic fashion, they can injure themselves on rocks and such. Just a guess though.

It very well could be a reaction to the loss of a friend.
Some fish do attach themselves and go into shock when there partner is gone. And a good surrogate is better than no friend at all. Hopefully he will get over this loss, But you never know.
If all you parameters are fine then Just wait a few days and see
If not then you might try a med but I believe this is ussually less benificial than most think. I hope he recovers for you!!!

Yes water quality is pretty good. both pectoral fins have these red coloration's on them and its identical on each fin. so i dont think its is an injury.

My foxface acted that way when we first got it and put it in the large display tank. I thought it was going crazy because of the constant swimming back and forth. Did you try to turn your lights down so it would go to its night hiding place and stop swimming for a while. I think it is just a stress reaction. Also try to offer it a sheet of Nori and it may slow down to eat-thats what helped mine to finally calm down. Good Luck jolene

I have had mine for 3 years now, and have seen slight red on pectoral fins, not as dark as on your picture. Does your foxface seem to have real rapid breathing?

Do they develop that color as they mature? It just recently showed up.

I'm not sure --suggest you repost that question in one of the fish forums
I would be interested in the answer also

I have a one spot with the same issue. He recently developed that dark coloring on the top part of his body. The rest of him is yellow and his spot remains dark.

No red on my foxface's mouth. Just some darkening on the top half of his body like yours. Eating well, but he does seem to be darting about more than usual.

My foxface has always been dark on the top part of his body. I have had him for almost 2 months now. It bothered me at first but I just came to accept it. No red fins on mine though. Just a dark band from his head to his spot. Watching him he doesn't seem to have a care in the world besides when his next meal is. He's the biggest pig of a fish I have ever seen. He's quite portly..

I had a foxface for almost 2 years and it got red at the base of it's pectoral fins.

The red came and went, and didn't seem to bother it, about 3 moths later, it started darting and it's mouth starting getting red. Always ate well though.

One day, it stopped eating, would head for the food, just didn't eat.

Put in in a QT and tried to save it, didn't succeed.

Tried various remedies and the fish just went down hill.

It was a great fish, biggest chicken of the sea, but once it got used to a new visitor, in or outside the tank, loved to show off to all.

I am sorry for your loss, Foxface are such a great fish. I was afraid to hear something like this. His mouth is not showing any signs of red..yet..I'm afraid to move him because he is so large and already stressed. I am not certain how to proceed. What remedies did you try?
I see that you have another Fox? and an Anthias? I was considering adding an anthias, how do the two get along? Of course, I won't be adding anything until (fingers crossed) Fox gets better. But if he does, he needs a new buddy.
