Foxface Venom

Has anyone been stung by a Foxface. I know that they are venomous, but I have not heard of anyone in my area getting stung.

i saw on the yahoo news page that in NY, a 19 year old guy got stung by his foxface, his hand swelled real big and had to be hospitalized.

so the lesson learned, dont get stung lol

I got stung by a small volitan before but not a foxface. I hear they aren't as bad as lionfish.

I've seen the result: total blackening [necrosis: tissue death] for a quarter-sized area around the puncture. Looked like a fiddleback spider bite in its medium-worst case. LIkely to make a pit-like scar, if it's like the spider in question. I'm told it's quite painful. If you do get jabbed, hot water, and a lot of it.

i been hit by both a lion and foxface.....i thought the lion was alot worse than the fox face...but it did hurt....my hand swelled up bad and that spot was sore for a few days...not like a bee sting like some say

They will generally just cause you alot of pain. Soak in hot water. Unless you have an allergic reaction you should be fine.

Weird. I've been stung by lions on numerous occassions, but only once by a rabbitfish (S. guttatus). I'll tell you something, the rabbitfish hurt a hell of a lot more than the various types of lions that have hit me.

Guess it's just a matter of individual response to the venom.

I know a lady who works at the LFS and she got stung by a foxface when she was trying to catch it for a customer. She said it was the most painful thing the had ever felt.

Stung numerous times? How does that happen?

I got stung by a foxface on my left hand and my whole arm had to be amputated. On my right I got stung by a line and my skin fell off.........................I mean seriously how do you get stung by a fish who you know is veminous. I would be extra carefull about putting my hand in a tank with a lion or a foxface.

I have a foxface and if it looks angry I let him calm down then once he is used to me and not upset about my intrusion, ill work with my arms in the tank, and he just thinks its dinner time.

My Magnificent FoxFace just goes into his dark colored camouflage mode and stays far away from me when I am in the tank. At 8 inches he has some serious spikes lol ! I almost always use the full length aqua gloves when working in the tank.

My Foxface has a favorite hiding spot and my hand NEVER goes near his hiding spot while in the tank. I've heard from a few people its like a bad bee sting but last a few days instead of a few hours.

I had a foxface for @ 4 years. It got freaked out but never got me. It died when it got in a fight with a hawkfish. They both died, actually. Very freaky

I got something just as worst being sliced by a very upset kole tang was getting him out of qt tank with net and making the mistake of using my hand cuping him in to net and then I felt one of the worst cuts ever
