Foxface

I've kept various foxface over the years and I agree that they are a timid fish... at least at first. They do like to eat a lot but it often takes time to get them to eat when first introduced into the tank. Its the first few days that are critical to the survival. If they don't eat and are being picked on by other fish they seem to get really stressed out and hide. Most fish leave them alone though probably because of the venomous spines. But tangs and larger angels seem to be the most problematic; at least in my experience. It's not uncommon for them to hide in a corner for several days. I agree that keeping algae on a clip is a good idea. If you have tangs and angels put a separate clip in the tank much lower for the foxface to eat from.

I figured mine was doomed, first inhabitant in my first salt tank. he was always hiding, seemed to always lose his color.

cant say what changed exactly, for one thing I started feeding him marine flakes which he just loves, and I added a clown fish. well the clown fish was perky as can be and he swam around with the foxface all the time. (guess no one told him it was sposed to be a tang not a foxface) anyway. after that the foxface is now super colorful and always out to see me. much better. I could believe he would eat out of my hand, he makes no qualms about checking out my arm when its in the tank. luckily he hasnt gotten too close yet.

great personality. sometimes I feel like I can see his toungue, I dont know if fish have tounges, but makes me laung anyway.

qiuck update, after 1 day he has color and is criusing around checking out his surroundings, purple tang seems to have taken a liking to him too. very wierd at night how he sleeps with no color and mouth open with gills barely moving. You'd swear he was dying but in the morning back to normal.

I've got one also in my 150gal.... At first he would not eat .... Couple of days later he started wolfing down the nori ( which is in the tank everyday ) and loves to eat brine and mysis shrimp.... He's virtually doubled in size over the past couple of months and is very healthy.... My Blonde Naso and he seem to be pals.... He very rarely "flashes" his dorsal spines anymore....

I highly recommend them for your reef tank.....

I'll agree to this. I moved my FF from my 55 gallon into my 125 a month and a half ago. Well my PBT didn't take very kindly to this. Almost killed him, despite the spines. After a few days, they're the best of buds. Those two along with my yellow tang.
