Frag Auction will open at 10:30 am

glaspie69 - PM sent.

I apolgize if I sounded critical. I really have no criticism at all for the way anthing is done. I just started with this club. I was truly just tring to offer my help.

I admit I come here, not to the Website. I will try to visit there more.

I think I have the answer you guys are looking for!
I am not a member...Just haven't had the time or money to enjoy the hobby as much lately but thats beside the point.
Why not have a buyers and sellers premium.
25% each way.
The seller still gets 75% and the club still see's a good chunk of the profit.
You might even consider something like a member discount on the buyers premium.
If your a club member you pay a 10% buyers premium.
If your not a member make it 25% buyers premium.

Speaking as a non member I would be willing to pay the premium

that is a great idea sort of like barrett jackson. That way nonmembers have to pay for part of the profits as well. I would be willing to pay a 25% if I bought an item.

Great idea

One of the biggest problems with our club that i see is that we span such a large area that someone is always 3 or so hours away.

Many of our events/meetings are split up between east and west thus eliminating the power to capitalize on our numbers as a group.

Most clubs are concentrated within a city or county and we are covering a whole state.
I am not suggesting anything just kind of speaking out loud.

Frag Auction

Frag Auction

I was unable to attend the frag auction. From all the responses, it appears that some options could be investigated.

The EIAA (Eastern Iowa Qquarium Association) is having their spring auction Sunday, May 6, 2007 at the Elkhir Shrine Temple on Collins Road in C.R. Baring any schedule changes, I plan to attend and possibly sell some freshwater fish, an RO unit, ect... I could ask the EIAA if they can provide some details in their auction rules, ect and then give it to the GIRS as a potential model for future auctions.

The one thing that is different right off the bat is that both members and non-members can buy and sell. That way the club has the opportunity to make money from more than just the members.

Please let me know if this kind of info is of interest.

Thanks

Jeff

For all the politics of this thread, I for one had a good time at the auction. Spent some money but that coral is NOT available locally and if I mailordered it it would have been like $400 so all in all I had a good time.

As far a not wanting to drive far to meetings to me that is part of the fun. Getting together with the locals and shoot the ship for 2-3 hour before meeting up with the rest of you is fun in my book. Half the time I wish the drive was longer.

I just want people to remember it is actually fun to go to these things.

I like the direction the club is going... I say let the people in charge set the % on the auctions and go from there. It all comes around in the long run with speakers and such. It's a hobby, ok obsession but thats it, no need for all the politics. I'd like to have more meetings in Des Moines area but understand that it can't always be that way, so be it. The guys that take the time out of their life to organize the club put a lot of planning into their decisions, is it going to make everyone happy no, thats life.
