Hey!

I picked up this little guy the other day from the LFS. Nobody there could agree on what it was. Birds nest coral? Montipora? Any thoughts? He's only about 1.5'' high, maybe 2'' across. From a distance he almost looks like a green velvet texture. I need to know what the heck he is before I can take care of him.

No expert, but my best guess is a cat's paw coral and if it is from what I understand they are on the difficult end of the spectrum..

Course I could be wrong..

Sounds great! I'll give it a try, at least now I know what he needs! He seems happy so far, opened right up in my tank. Hopefully it continues to go well.

oh and you may want to post this in the sps forum..this forum is for mushrooms for the most part.. thinking you will get more response from people who will know..

looks like a pocillopora to me. not very good with the sps names though. very easy to take care of. often will spawn in reef tanks under the right conditions.

IMO,Pocillopora damicornis a.k.a Pocillopora corals!I would say ya got the O.R.A Green Pocillopora Damicornis!

Thank you! thank you! I do know the LFS where I purchased it at is crazy about the ORA corals, so thats probably a good identification.

I'd also agree with the green pocillopora ident. Keep an eye on that aptasia before it gets out of hand.

You probably shouldn't add O.R.A to the name unless you know for sure.

Oh those aiptasia are relentless!! I've been using Aiptasia-X...I'm not so sure I like it. For one, when some excess lands on any bit of my mushrooms it almost burns them. Plus, I swear the Aiptasias come back twice as strong.

Believe it or not I hit that Aiptasia just a day prior to the photo and he's already back with vengeance!!
