Frag question!

Biocube507

New to the hobby and just bought 3 small soft frags. Not sure what lighting they need? I have a biocube 29ga. What light do they need during the day? Just the regular led day time light?

Is the moonlight light needed for them during the night?

Thank you!

If they are softies your stock light will be just fine. 8-10 hours of light per day, anything more and you will probably see excess algae bloom. Moonlights wont do much for you other than looks honestly.

You will find that for long term success, you really should research before you buy. What was your plan going to be if your lighting ended up being insufficient?

I wasn't asking if my lighting was sufficient or not. I was asking which lighting setting on my biocube is needed. It has 3 different settings so wasn't sure which was needed for the frags .

you might not have been asking it but its still a very important question you need to be asking yourself when buying something. its irresponsible to buy something you will inevitably kill due to not having the right setup.

Well the guy at the fish store is pretty knowledgable and he reassured me my setup was more than plenty for the frags I bought. I made sure before buying. But I forgot to ask the guy which modes I should use. It has an option with just LEDs and another mode that's LEDs plus a brighter day time light. Do they matter? Not sure which the frags prefer

That was certainly how I read the question. I'll stick with my answer. Sorry if you didn't like it.

It's alright I appreciate everyone's opinion ! Maybe I worded the initial post wrong but now that it's been clarified does anyone have any opinions on which modes I should have on for the 8 hours of the day? Is the regular led daytime light ok?

Can you link to the model you have?

From the looks of it, you have two PC fluorescents and a moonlight. For the day time, both fluorescents should be on (actinic/blue and 10k white). Unless this is a different bio cube :)

I run my blues and daylights 8 hours a day on my 29g biocube frag tank. After daylights go out, I leave the blues on until I go to bed and then turn them back on in the morning for about 2 hours before I turn the daylights on. My frags are doing fine and growing great. Just be sure that when you ask or research before you buy, be sure you know where in the tank they will do the best. Low, mid, high. What flow they want as well. Lighting in the tank is only part of it, knowing a little more about each individual corals wants/needs is also really important. I have a 3 level frag stand in my tank with each level overhanging the next so that I can be sure I can put my frags in the location that will best work for each of them. Just something to think about to start off with the best chance for success possible.
