I found one of the stars as well when I dipped one of the zoo frags. Some people say they eat SPS.. some people say they are harmless. Who wants to take the chance though.
I always dip also but i use 20 drops per liter of tank water of the tincture of iodine which is found at most local drug stores. does anyone else do the same? i read about it in the zoa forums and it seems to work great. i hear it is better then the commercial bought products for dipping and is cheaper but i havnt ever used any other method other then the tincture of iodine.
Just so anyone who got a frag from me can check there stuff. The mystery star in question came from one of my fraggs. Did the star come from a frag of mine Titansfan and was it real stubby looking or like the ones on the glass all the time? Here is a link to another thread where I answered about this on. Sorry if its bad and you got it from me. Good info pitbull, everyone can get there hands on Iodine to dipp with.
I think the people at garf have snorted too much of that grunge over the years I think garf is the only place I've read bad things about these stars. I have probably a few hundred of those stars hidden in the tank and while they might cause zoos to close up when they crawl across... I've never seen them eat either of my sps. Although... I'm no sps king by any means.

lol. that about killed me when i read that . ive had the same looking stars in my tanks also with no probs. i would think that if they came from one of angelas frags or anyone else's frags and they really are bad that they would be having troubles with them by now since im sure they have been in the tank long enough to populate and cause harm considering they didnt just bye the frag which i doubt since there already fragging it. also just to add even if they were bad i wouldnt blame anyone for passing on something bad. ive gotten bad hitchikers after dipping new frags from people who are really carefull and that i trust. it just happens and nothings 100% when it comes to ridding pests.
There was a lot more disscusion on this in the other forum so I just cut my post over there to add hear
OK Sorry about the rants earlier and long winded posting! The frag they came from I decided to frag that morning just to try and make a little extra cash. Seriously, that colony I have had for at least 8 months and its the healthiest looking polyps I have ever had. Every polyp is 100% open and multiplying like mad so I would think if it was a bad star like some think at least 1 polyp in 8 months would have looked stressed at the least. The mother colony started as a tiny 10 polyp frag and I have enjoyed watching it grow like a weed and actually paid close attention to that zoa because it is one of my favorites. Knowing the star came from a awsome heathy colony it puts my mind at ease over it being bad.
Someone else that got my other frag of this had a star on his also. So if they were bad I think 2 on one small colony would have made it a little stressed and it wasn't so even more fuel to the they are not bad theory.
